The 1967 TV version of the musical “Damn Yankees” revisits the classic tale of a fan’s Faustian bargain to save his losing baseball team, the Washington Senators. Joe Boyd becomes young star Joe Hardy after trading his soul to the devil, Mr. Applegate. Though successful on the field, Joe misses his old life, a struggle emphasized by the song “Heart.”

Applegate sends temptress Lola to seduce Joe and cement the soul deal. Despite the memorable number “Whatever Lola Wants,” Lola falls for Joe, complicating Applegate’s plans. The story climaxes in a high-stakes game, pushing Joe to choose between his new and old lives.
